Billy knows what it’s like to overcome hardship
and obstacles. His experiences growing up on Hawaii Island
and the encouragement and support he received from coaches,
teachers, and leaders in our community has instilled in
him a deep sense of responsibility to inspire other youth
to pursue their dreams with integrity, hard work, and
determination.
He has made a commitment to be a positive role model for
our children. He is often asked to speak to schools in
every community on our Island to share with our children
that they are capable of achieving their dreams, and that
they can realize their potential through the belief that
our community is a place of hope, opportunity, and possibilities.
Billy believes, with all his heart, that a healthy and
safe community begins with healthy children and healthy
families.
Billy was born in Kalapana, graduated from Waiakea
High, and attended both the Hawaii Community College and
UH Hilo before graduating from the University of Massachusetts
at Amherst as a member of the UMASS Political Science
Honor Society. He then got his Law Degree from UH Manoa's
William S. Richardson School of Law.
Billy is a member of the Hawaii State Bar Association.
He is a board member with the Hawaii Justice Foundation
and the Hawaii Island United Way. He coaches AYSO Soccer
and teaches Administration of Justice at the Hawaii Community
College. Billy was recognized by Hawaii Business Magazine
in 2007 as one of “25 people who will help shape

The United Public Workers (UPW) announced their endorsement
of Billy Kenoi for Mayor for Hawaii Island in 2008 today,
during a press conference at the union's Lanikaula Street
headquarters. The UPW Hawaii Division Political Action Committee
(PAC) voted unanimously to endorse Billy Kenoi for Mayor
last December. The group represents over 13,000 civil service
workers statewide, including over 2000 Hawaii Island members.
